The cabinet appointments of Prime Minister Andy Burnham have naturally given way to a flurry of speculation as to where the government is heading, with the assembling of his top team offering an early signal of the priorities of his leadership.
Among the more controversial decisions was the scrapping of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), with much of its former remit being rolled into an empowered Business Department operating under the name: The Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (DBIST).
Though much of the tech industry has voiced concern over the fact that it will have to compete with all other businesses for government attention, as well as expressed fears that the vital work of DSIT could face delays and uncertainty, a related cabinet appointment has offered a promising sign that Burnham does not plan to leave tech in the lurch....
