GALLOS Technologies, a defence venture studio founded by former UK national security and special forces leaders, has announced a $50m (£35m) balance sheet investment round to fund the creation and scaling of early-stage defence startups.

The group is led by senior veterans from UK special forces and intelligence agencies, including former GCHQ director Sir Jeremy Fleming.

With the new capital secured, the group aims to support a new cohort of companies following the backing of startups including StirlingX and AI Score.

“The world faces rapidly growing and evolving digital threats, fuelled by geopolitical instability and sharpened by the speed at which new and emerging technologies are being turned against us,” said Fleming, who serves as chairman of GALLOS’s Strategic Advisory Board.

“GALLOS’s work enhances our ability to protect both people and businesses, in the UK and other allied nations.”

The financing was co-led by Ventura Capital and Aberdeen Investments, with continued backing from founding investor Lansdowne Partners. The round remains open to select additional strategic investors.

“GALLOS’s power is in its people. This team knows where the gaps lie and are filling out national defence and resilience whitespaces with great purpose,” said Mo El Husseiny, managing partner of Ventura Capital.

“GALLOS is the go-to platform for security, defence and resilience at a time when both the public and private sectors demand pace, quality and innovation. We are proud to have co-led GALLOS’s capital raise.”
