VC firm Index Ventures has raised $2bn (£1.48bn) in new funds, bringing its total investing capacity across seed, venture, and growth stages to $3.5bn (£2.6bn).

The London and San Francisco-based firm’s latest capital injection comprises a new $400m (£297m) seed fund, a $900m (£668.6m) venture fund, and an additional $700m (£520m) top-up for its growth vehicle, which now stands at $2.2bn (£1.6bn).

The new capital will be deployed across Europe, the UK, Israel, and the US, targeting early-to-late-stage startups building in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, infrastructure, fintech, healthcare, and consumer technology.

According to the company, it will in particular double down on its activities in the AI sector.

“This moment feels right for it. AI is putting the power to build into more hands than ever before, accelerating the time from idea to product, and opening entire industries to disruption,” said Index Ventures in a blog post.

“The founders who see that opportunity clearly — and who have the conviction to act on it before others do — are the visionaries we continue to back, whether they’re building from scratch or reimagining a company they’ve already built once for an AI-first era.

“To the founders who’ve trusted us, and the LPs who’ve believed in us from the start: thank you. Thirty years in, the conviction that brought us here hasn’t changed. The dream is still the same. The best is yet to come.”

Index Ventures is one of the largest and most established VC firms in the world, with previous investments including Meta, Revolut and Slack.
